Maldives has been inducted as the President of Colombo Plan Council for the year 2017/2018 at the 293rd Session of the Colombo Plan Council held today in Colombo, Sri Lanka. At this session Malaysia concluded its term as the President of the Colombo Plan Council.
On assuming the duties of the Council as the President of the CP Council, His Excellency Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Ambassador of Maldives to Sri Lanka thanked the outgoing President for steering the Council during the past year. He assured Representatives of the Council that he would carry out the tasks entrusted to him to the best of his ability with the support and cooperation of all Council Representatives, the Secretary-General and the staff of the Colombo Plan Secretariat.
His Excellency Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Ambassador of Maldives to Sri Lanka is currently also the Chair of the Committee on Administrative and Financial Matters of Colombo Plan.
Maldives has assumed the Presidency of the Council of the CP Council on three occasions. During 2004/2005 term, as the Ambassador of Maldives to Sri Lanka, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Asim, the incumbent Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives assumed duties of the Council as the President of the CP Council.
