The newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Mohamed Hussain Shareef, has presented his Letter of Credence to the President of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena at a ceremony held this morning at the President’s House of Sri Lanka.
During the brief meeting after the presentation of Credentials, President Maithripala Sirisena welcomed Ambassador Shareef to Sri Lanka and expressed his sincere hope to strengthen cooperation between the two countries. President Sirisena also noted that Sri Lanka is home for thousands of Maldivians and both countries have a long history of close relations and expressed hope to further strengthen relations especially in the area of investments.
Ambassador Shareef ensured President Maithripala Sirisena that during his tenure in Sri Lanka as the Ambassador of Maldives, would work to further strengthen the existing long-standing friendly ties between the two countries and conveyed greetings and good wishes from His Excellency President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. Ambassador Shareef noted that it is both an honour and a privilege to represent the Maldives as the Ambassador to Sri Lanka where he has so many recollection and acquaintances. Ambassador Shareef highlighted the economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and Maldives and ensured President Maithripala Sirisena that during his term in office, would work to expand the existing collaborations in the area of investment.
At the ceremony, Ambassador Shareef was accompanied by Ms. Khadeeja Najeeha, Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Maldives in Sri Lanka.
President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom appointed His Excellency Mohamed Hussain Shareef as the Ambassador of Maldives to Sri Lanka on 6th September 2017 at the rank of a Minister.
