Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Asim attended the Cultural Event hosted last night by the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Maldives, Major General (Rtd.) A. B. Thoradeniya, as the Chief Guest.
The Cultural event which was held in Male’ Alimas Carnival was to mark the 69th Anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka. While addressing the audience as the Chief Guest of the event, Minister Asim said that the Maldives will always remain a reliable friend, and a partner of Sri Lanka, and its people. Furthermore, Minister mentioned that Sri Lanka’s independence and its strive for economic and social progress have always inspired Maldivians. He also stressed that it was no coincidence that the Maldivian leaders, who helped to shape the modernization process in the country in 1930s, and those who led the independence negotiations for the Maldives, all studied in Sri Lanka and had spent their formative years in Colombo.
The Cultural Event celebrating the Independence Day of Sri Lanka showcased traditional and cultural dances of Sri Lanka by Sri Lankan artistes.
